Well, it happend to me finally. I was riding the crap out of my LT230S today and the steering shaft broke where a guy had done a previous, poorly done I might add, repair. It was pretty un-dramatic, if you wernt riding it. Luckly I was climbing a short hill and just crested the top when she gave way.

Im looking at bike bandit for a replacement, but I might call up the stealership and see what kinda pricing they have.

Check eBay too. I got one for $14 when mine broke clear off!

Few updates done in the Vault...

Added a gallery showcasing NewportHillClimber's sweet 230 (sorry it took so long to get up!)

And I also have a bunch of old magazine images/articles ready to go live as soon as I get permission from Dirt Wheels to post them...I can't afford to be sued! Thanks to BigMC and SlayerSam for these, even if I can't post them!

Recently acquired a '87 230. A plug between the pull rope handle and cylinder head backed out and oil leaked. Plug is on left side of engine and service book doesn't tell me what plug is for or the reservoir purpose or capacity. Any hints?

I got the shaft out, and under closer inspection, the last guy to weld it, didnt accually weld it. Just the slag was holding it together. Im going to take it to the shop and get our welder to do it right.

I had another question. Im thinking of punching my motor out over the winter. How big can I bore it? (I heard at least 250cc). And if I go that big, what kind carb should I use? What pipe?

Im probably going to drop it off to a professional builder and he'll take care of everything. I was just looking for a guideline so I could get an idea what the carb and pipe are gonna cost.

My quad smokes a lot and i need to bore it to get rid of the marks on the cylinder and i was going to go up to 68mm and was wondering what i would need to do for it to work.

Thanks

I wouldnt go that big unless you plan to revamp the entire motor. Cam, Carb, exhaust, valves, and crank shaft assembly. A .50 over bore with the stock carb ( rejetted of course) is a heck of an improvement. i built the snot of of my 230 and trust me not over doing it is worth it. just check out my pics. i do all of my own work.

Forget the stock carb, and upgrade to a 28mm flat slide.
