What color is the smoke? Black, you're rich. Blue, you're burning oil. Hone it out, throw some rings in it, and check the valve guides for wear.

A little oil smoke does not mean you have to rebuild the whole thing. Freshening up the top end would fix it. That is assuming the bottom end is still in good condition.

Default 1985 suzuki 230 quadsport valves and lifters q?

i rebuild my old engine and got it going but the lifters are really loud how do you tune them. i think its a exhaust valve or intake valve hitting alittle bit. anyone know how to go about rebuiling one? thanks guy, jeff

also my friend has a 1987 warrior and keeps geting oil in his intake even when his cranhshaft vent to is unattached he even rebuild it a year ago any ideas?

Default connecting rod

New to the fourm, just found this thread.i just picked up a 1985 lt230s. lots of good info on here. i am in the process of replacing the connecting rod because the engine is knocking. just ordered the flywheel tool, and was wondering when spliting the case. do you need a case spliter or can you get it apart without one. thanks

codydude. you definately need to freshen your top. if the only way it will start is by rolling it off and it smokes, hone it re ring it and do a valve lap in the least. but usually this is all it will take. be sure to measure your cylinder diameter to see if you need to have it bored. and jimskin you dont need a case splitter to split 230 cases. it makes it easier but its not neccesary. just be careful and pry them apart evenly.
