Eiger- erratic throttle
Allright, thanks, I'll give that a shot next time. sure beats pullin off the entire rear plastics, gas tank, tank cover, rack, airbox....and other stuff I can't even remember. Took 10x as long to tear it apart as it took to check the carb. All except for tryin to seat that stupid diaphragm. I found a little bit of petroleum jelly in the groove helps it stick though. You get yours back in the shop yet?

I wouldn't think you'd have to take all that off. Especially the rack, air box, and entire rear plastics. I can pull the carb all the way off after disconnecting the vacuum lines and the throttle cable by just taking the side panels off but maybe since yours is a manual shift,
there's linkages in the way? It's a little harder to put it back on if the tank and tank cover is on but its definately doable. If you don't have a service manual, you should get one. It has made things alot easier for the maintenance I've done to mine and it's only about $40.
My dad has it now and he's going to take it in later this week when he travels back home. Thanks for asking.
