KNOWSALOT,
You are the Guru on this forum so I will refer to you if anyone else has one of these quads I will welcome any info.
I recently bought an 85 quadsport/quadrunner for a really good price. I have not seen this quad yet, if that tells you how good of a deal it is. I will pick it up over Easter weekend. The guy told me it was a 85 230 with shaft drive and electric start with reverse. My questions are:
1: What is the exact model of this quad?
2: Is the 230 motors all the same?
3: How hard will it be to get parts for this quad?
4: What mods are out there and how beneficial are they?

My brother bought this quad. He is in the Navy overseas and I am going to do all the work for him. Will this be a fairly reliable quad? I know age is a factor and I am not nieve. Will it be worththe time and effort to fix it or should I part it out and get something else. Like I said he is in the Navy, so he will no be going to the dunes any time soon.

Well first of all, this 230 is not a quadsport, but a quad runner. It is the GE model, being that it is shaft drive.

This is not a machine you would want to take to the dunes unless you are pretty content at plonking along and enjoying the view.

The top end parts from the 230 line will interchange but there are some differences in the bottom ends.
The pistons are different betweenthe "S"/"E" and "GE" models.

Parts are readily available. No problems there.

As far as it being worth fixing is concerned,...that's up to you. You said you got a good deal on it so I figure as long as you don't invest any more than say...$800.00 overall, you should be ok.

As far as the exact year model, I can only tell that from the serial number off of the frame.
But I can tell you it was only made from '85 to '86

Is that the quad with big balloon tires for the rear suspension and huge racks?

Knowsalot,
I went to the wiseco website today and saw a new piston for the 230 GEF. Is this the right piston? Will it help a lot? Is there a K&N kit for it?

All my listings show a Wiseco for the "E" and "S" models, but not the "GE". I would call and make sure that it is correct. Maybe my book is wrong.

Same with the K&N. I show listings for "S" and "E" models but not a "GE". You might want tio verify that as well. Seems my books are banned from "GE" model parts.LOL

Knowsalot,
I picked up the 230 GE yesterday. It is almost complete and I am buying a Clymer to help with its restoration. A couple of questions though:
1. Is there a good website to go to for schematics with suzuki part numbers?
2. Is there a good suzuki website to go to for used parts? i.e. plastic
I am sure I will think of more questions before it is all said and done.

I know there are web sites with fiche out there, but I never have had to look for one since I already have all of them. Post a topic on it and see where everyone else is looking.

As far as the plastic, you will have to search the net for the ATV salvage yards for that one. I have used cycleprossalvage.com a few times and have had nothing but good things to say about them based on my dealings with them. Give them a try.

Again, good luck on your project.

For parts look up www.bikebandit.com. Then order through Yamaha suzuki of Arizona. They are the cheapest.
