Are you sure it's the starter? When my rectifier went out it gave similar symptoms as a faulty starter. Just my .02 to maybe help. It took a multi-meter to trace it out to my rectifier. Let us know how it goes.

http://216.37.204.206/wps/Honda_OEM/...e=13&A=49&B=45 You can see the rectifier in the diagram. It is a flat piece, most likely under you right rear fender with fins on it. The cylinder thing you are describing will always click if there's no juice. It's most likely not your problem. Have you tested your battery? If it looks like it's okay, it's most likely your rectifier or less likely the starter.

Well, if you have a multi-meter handy it should read 12 volts. If you don't, take it out and take it to Advance they can test it. The average life of ATV batteries are 2-3 years. If it's bad you will need a new one. The ones like they sell require you to charge them before use. If this isn't an option you can purchase a pre-charged one online.

I second the battery. That is what my problem was when mine would just click. the battery charger would tell me it was charged but it would not have enough discharge to startt he machine. I bought one from Batteries Plus for $35.

I've been thinking back to the rectifier problem. Now that I think about it, it was blowing the 30 Amp main fuse, which yours isn't. If you haven't checked you battery start there...I just assumed you already had checked that.

i had this same thing happen to my 1986 trx250 the other day. it would not turnover it would just click. i was getting power to the starter but nothing would happen. and i tried charging hte battery and that didnt help. so i tore the starter apart. i cleaned out all the dust and i found out that the brushes were worn pretty bad. i dont know much about electric motors but im pretty sure the power comes from the wire to the brushes and thats the power source (brush). i put the starter back together and i started right up. one problem though, it makes a wierd whining noise when it starts.
