I live in Front Royal and ride Taskers Gap most of the time but I'm always looking for more riding options. What is this place and is there a fee? Taskers gets boring after a while! I dont know too many people that own land so I'm always looking at other options. We need more public riding areas here in Northern Va.!!!

Taskers Gap is ok, but some of the trails are alittle rough. You can at least spend 3/4 of the day there. the two main trails, Peters Mill and Taskers are just up and back type trails. The side trails off of Taskers Gap are relatively short but good enough.Permits are $5 a day; $30 or $35, cant remember, a year. For us locals, other than owning land or knowing someone with land, it's the shortest distance to travel to ride! We need more public riding areas in the Shenandoah valley region

If you are on Rt. 11 in Edinburg, there is a road( not sure of the name) at the Chrysler/Jeep dealership, right beteween the main building and the car lot. It takes you up over the mountain toward Kings Crossing. Near the top of the mountain on the right is Taskers main parking lot. You can access both trails from that lot. Peters Mill trail is directly accross the road. There is another parking area down the road a little on the right also. This lot has access to the main trail at Taskers Gap. You can also get to this main trail from the upper parking area using some of the trials but some of them are a little rough but manageable. One in particular is downright tough but people use it because it is a shortcut. If I am in the upper lot and want to get to the main Taskers trail I take the long way around to the top of the Taskers main trail, it is less abusive but still has some slightly tough terrrain in some spots.

Want more land, see how much pull you'll have with the Extension Office, 4-H and Va-Tech, you'd be suprised! I was. Since October, we have gone from back yards, to 30acres by Christmas and now 530acres, plus "maybe" another 200acres on the way. The land is out there, once we announced that we were looking, it came to us and we are in the smallest county in the Commonwealth. Not all of the land is usable due to be a wetlands area, but there is plenty for us to choose from.
