i guess this thread is a little old, but what the heck. i live in se michigan and also work out of the tech center in auburn hills sometimes (i work with a consulting company). anyway, the guy who gave advice on baldwin, mich, was right on - those are about the most extensive orv trails in the state. plenty of camping too. the best thing to do is to visit michigan dnr's website for the latest trail maps. and keep in mind the michigan dnr HATES orvs and will will be happy to make you the proud owner of a $75 ticket for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. trail markings are generally very poor throughout most trail systems, so make sure you know the route before venturing on to new territory.
i assume that since it's been a couple of months since your post, you've been out already. how is the riding so far?

I'm not sure of the name of the trails by Higgins Lake, but it has 3 different loops. I hear they're like 10 miles, 25 miles and a 40 mile, but I'm not sure if thats the true lengths. They are pretty tight in most places.
We also ride on some fire roads near Lake City, which is near Houghton lake. This weekend we're going to ride at Liota(sp?).
