I think I would like a 4-stroke better then a 2-stroke. My boyfriend has a blaster that is set up for hill-shooting. I am more intersted in just doing some trail riding.

 

i would go 300ex, warrior, 400ex or pretty much anything similar. if its just trails and your b/f only has a blaster you arent going to need a really powerful bike to keep up. the two strokes ive ridden suck in trails (with the exception of my blaster, it was great), 4-stroke is a lot easier. do you have any experience on his bike or any other? i would have to say a blaster would be my choice, its more fun IMO, but if you want something to get the job done without too much work get a 4 stroke. plus the ride quality of a blaster kinda sucks.. okay really sucks, they bounce all over.

I hear a lot of crying about 2-strokes being to much work. Well the only reason you guys don't think 4-strokes are a lot of work is because there are very few 4-stroke's out there that are old enough to have issues that the older 2-strokes have. I know plenty of people that have mid 90's 2-strokes with out any issues. Of coarse there will be issues with any anything the raptor tranny, the z400 frame, the YFZ450 electrical, blowing valves. Of coarse there is the 2-stroke issues Mixing gas (which by the way you should purchase the engineer to mix your gas because it can get difficult), and Top end rebuilds. The people I ride with that have 4-strokes do just as much maintanence as any 2-stroke that I ride with. Let's face it if you don't know how to do the maintanence your going to bring it to your local shop regardless.

It all comes down to what you like if you like something that has all torque get a 4-stroke. If you want to feal the power of a 2-stroke powerband get a 2-stroke.

2 strokes do go through pistons and rings faster but their also cheaper to work on and cheaper on the inital purchase. If you had a blaster and kept it stock it would run good for years. Not to mention if you keep your boyfriend you can use his spare parts and he will know how to work on it.

 

Yamaha should make a sport automatic like the scrambler. Just with way better reliability!!!

definitely get a 4-stroke. if you dont need reverse, get a 400ex. if you do, and can operate a manual clutch (well if you cant then learn!) then get a 300EX. A 300EX is a fun bike despite what people say about it. If you can spend more, then go with a Z400. Its got it all.

 

Get a 4 stroke. You will probably regret it if you get a bike without reverse. Electric start is a plus as well which most any 4 stroke will have. A warrior is a good bike. A 300 ex is great all around but slightly less powerful than a warrior. The new z 400 or kfx 400 would probably be great for you if you want even more power. Be sure you want a manual clutch bike before you buy. (My wife would not enjoy one)

 

Ok coming srtaight from my wife.. we have owned a couple blasters in which my wife really enjoyed but once she tried the 300ex with features like electric start, reverse, and good low end torque she never wanted to ride a blaster again. Plus! speaking from experience the blaster is quite a bit less reliable than the 300ex given the fact that it is a 2 stroke and on top of that you do have to keep up on the oil and gas levels for the premix. I would deffinately go with the 300ex, maybe even a 400ex if your feeling bold enough!
