As a complete newbie with no experience hardly ever on vehicles in general, much less ATV.....

Do I just need a regular grease gun and that attachment part from AutoZone? If so, is there a certain size gun to get that has the right fitting for that special attachment from AutoZone? Thanks! I saw what appears to be a fitting just off the back hubs. From the sounds of it, there's one on that top arm and one on the bottom. I will do a complete inspection and lubing, front and back, before I take it out again.

Also, if it is a while between ridings, I should use a gas stabilizer, right? I seem to remember asking this before, and got mixed results. But I asked the same question on some other forum about my generator and gas stabilizer, so I'm confused as to which question got the mixed response.

One final question, I have the 5x8 trailer with the metal angle on the sides. Should I put eye bolts in the wood flooring and use them to strap it down? When I went this time, I used two motorcyle straps (not ratchet straps, but the kind you press the one side of the buckle to pull tight). The Kodiak jostled around and moved a bit, and the straps came loose a few times. Maybe I only need a few more straps?

any grease gun will do, even the one they sell at walmart,
the smaller one which you pump by squeezing with your fingers is good but it holds small cartriges of grease , for one ATV it is ok.
if you got multiple ATVs a boat and trailer with grease fitting , than go for the full size , usualy it has a handle to pump the grease.

a 90 degree angle attachment would latch on to the end of your grease gun.

as far as the tiedowns.
it is personall preference,
I use the buckle type and works fine, I also have the ratcheting type , but rarely use it.
there are cheap ratcheting one available and there is heavy duty ones , same for the buckle type.
go for the heavy webbing.
my trailer has the angle iron sides and I just drilled holes in the angle to hook the tiedown into. you can also put "eyes" in it.

there is also more expensive tiedown available, that go around your tire (from the top) and tie to the floorboard.

as far as the gas stabilizer, I never use it.
some say you should.

Any good auto parts store should have the greese gun fitting. Napa, Carquest, looks just like normal end with a slot cut u 1 side

 

don't forget a needle fitting for the front drive shaft jonts.

I forget who started this thread but checked my 05 450 kodiak and sure enough no grease in the rear suspension zerks, went armed with part number to autozone that one of you folks posted and now have good lube job on the rear end. Thanks all, never would have picked up on it if it hadn't been mentioned in this forum.

 

Thanks a lot for the information zsebi and others! I think I will either use eye bolts or drill holes in the metal angle like you said. Having the hook able to slide up and down the angle is a nonstarter for me, since those roads have ruts and bumps all over and I've seen how the straps don't hold it in place very well. Also, I have to be sure the metal hooks are nowhere near the ATV, because I had one spot where it was and from jumping up and down on the road, the paint started to wear as the metal hook bumped up against it repeatedly.

So I can get the small grease gun at Walmart, and I need the part from AutoZone, AND a needle fitting for the driveshaft? Where can I get that needle fitting? Sorry for needing the details, but all this is brand new to me.

was able to use the 90 degree grease gun attachment but it was a bit messy.... grease was all over of outside of the fitting ,
I also got some new 90 degree grease fittings !!! to replace the ones in the rear sussp. for easier greasing next time

I picked up an assortment package, metric size !!!
but they not the correct tread size. it may be standard size, I will check in to it.

I was able to grease the the rear drive shaft with a standard grease gun fitting , and also able to grease the front shaft front fitting.
Note : the drive shaft has to be rotated to have big enough opening to insert the grease gun.

the front shaft -- rear U joint-- required the use of a needle attachment.

check the tire/wheel lug nuts as well, mine were all loose
torque should be 40 FT-Lb
