Default JE 12:1 or 11:1??

I am getting a new piston for my raptor, stock bore. I am putting in a HotCam stage 1 as well. I want to be able to run Premium gas (93 octane) and i was wondering if 12:1 would be too much for pump gas. Thanks all.

I bought a 12:1 compression piston.. going to install it hopefully tomorrow. I was told from JE run at LEAST 100 octane.

From what i here JE have alot of probs. They crap out on people alot. I'd go with Ross or wiseco.

Go with 11:1 so you could run pump gas and increase the reliability over 12:1

There was a bad batch of JE Pistons for the Raptor. It's all resolved now from what I understand.

With JE...I'm not so sure it was the piston as much as I think it was the wrist pin.....Ross is a 10.75:1 and will run better on 89 octane than on 91..IMO...any higher compression would require a high octane fuel...(what a pain).I prefer Ross or CP....Kenz carries a CP....Make sure your rod is not worn prior to the piston installation.

I know this may sound like a dumb question.. but where do you check on the rod for wear? Now you got me worried about installing this piston. I know there there is play up and down there is a serious problem with the rod. Hopefully I don't see any play if I get to it today.

When you pull your piston pin out to get your piston off, look on the right side of the rod.you'll know...Mine had alot of wear on it...if you would like to see a picture of it, pm me with your email adress and I'll send you the pics...the file was to big for me to post the pics on the forum.Keep in mind, mine was an 01 so it had 4 good hard years of riding before I sent it off to Craycraft for the 690.
