1986 Moto 4 YFM 225S parking brake question
Hi all
Just got it. Very well-maintained shape. Only the muffler is shot - and something is up with the parking break / rear break cable. It came with several spare parts but this cable looks new. There is no ability to make tension on it and the guy said it never worked and he just used the foot brake. When I looked at it I noticed the thing that eventually led me back to the manual and was the parking break. I don't have a shop manual just the manufacture manual.
Could the lack of tension in the hand grip for the rear parking brake (thus no brake power from that) be related to this parking brake thing? It just looks like a little clip attached to a kind of disc screw that screws tight or loose. While the bike is in excellent condition I didn't realize how difficult it would be to adapt to the foot shifter thing so I am thinking of selling it before I wreck however the gears shift - but would fix this brake line if I could. Thanks for any help!

I'm a bit puzzled by "There is no ability to make tension on it" as the parts book shows, like many 80s and 90s Yams, a knurled adjuster on the handlebar end of the cable and a wingnut adjuster where it goes into the lever on the disc caliper. Take a look at the parts book https://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oem...-yfm225s-parts the rear brake is in the Brake section and the cable in the Handlebar Cable section, to check if you have all the parts, and how they fit together.
