Has anyone had a problem with the drive belt on the 2000 kodiak? How often are they to be replaced? Any other info on this machine? Thanks for the help. I'm getting a new machine next month and it's between this and the new Rancher ES.

I have a 00 kodiak and the way the machine is set up with the high and low range you should not have any problems. If you are going to put it in a bind then switch it to low, the gearing will be easyer on the belt. People that I have talked to say the belt should last for about 2 years with average to hard ridding. I personally like the belt and slipperage parts in a machine, it makes it hard to break the major parts. The belt is inexpensive compared to other parts that could break. We have been in a lot of water and have had no problems at all. Me and a friend both bought 00 Kodiaks -------Kyle Kimball Southeast, Texas --------------

I agree with what Eric said about it preventing further damage by taking the belt out first. However, most people get far more than 2 years. I have a friend with Polaris '94 400 4x4 (I think '94) and it's on it's stock belt. Just don't abuse it.

I was talking about factory recommended replacement. I know riders that have recived a lot of years out of their belt without replacing it. I should have stated it more clearly. How often do you replace your belts on a car?

Another thought, I havn't priced the belt, but I know the one for my snowmobile is around $50. I would assume the Kodiak is about the same.

I am sure however that it is easier to replace a belt then it would be to replace a the clutches.

I got a price of $56.00 at my Dealer. He had to dig it up because he has not sold one yet.
