Yamoto 150cc Review
#291
Awhile back I did some mods and noticed it ran really rich. Well I kept re-jetting to get it to run right and went from a 140 to 120. That just didn't seem right, I thought the mods I did wouldn't change it that much. Well I finally got around to checking the choke after finding the manual choke fix thread and what do you know, mine doesn't work either. Basically there is a spring that gets hot when 12V is applied and it forces the needle down to turn the enrichment circuit off (takes about 3-5min to reach full extension). Well I guess as most people have found out, when it goes bad it just doesn't work, leaving the choke ON all the time. This made my buggy run rough, not accepting full throttle well at all.
I took the e-choke off and put the power to it and noticed it didn't move at all. The engine manual I downloaded off the yerf-dog site had the exact measurements the choke piston thing should move, as well as the instructions for checking it. I am going to do the manual conversion now and eliminate the troublesome e-choke for good. I should be able to re-jet and get it back to where it should be. It just so happened that mine went bad soon after my mods, so I got a little confused. I did the mods and thought great, then the next couple of times I rode it it got worse and worse.
This is an easy thing to check if yours is running poorly.
good luck,
Kelly

what can be done to make the throttle press easier, my 7yr daughter thumb gets tired after a while and she doesn't ride it as much. can the spring in the carb be cut down or replaced? has anyone tried that?
thanks

You can get a thumb assist. It bolts on to the throttle and makes it alot easier to push. You can buy this at most atv shops for about $20 buks. Do not cut the spring in the carb. It needs the tension to make the carb slide return to idle position. If you cut it you may risk the throttle sticking in an open position.

Now that Patriot took over all seems to have gone to hell over there. I work for a shop in Indiana where we brought in the Yamotos about 8 months ago and they started out pretty nice. It seems the stock as it comes over in pretty inconsistant. Our latest batch of Yamotos have had these major issues:
Yamoto 150 ATV
Carb Problems - we've had alot of problems with the chokes not working properly as well as several units wanting to dump fuel right out of the crate. Turns out several units have a jet installed that was not drilled out even (yes a solid jet!).
Rear Axle Problems - The rear axle/nut assembly is horrible. The crown nut does not even set properly within the cotter pin hole pretty much rendering the crown nut useless. Shim it out or your wheels WILL come loose in a short period of time.
NERF Bars bend easily - The steel wont hold any signicant weight - a 170 lb person standing on the outside of them will bend them. Haven't found a solution to this one.
Suspension is too stiff - a rough ride here
Rear Sprocket Bolts will Snap Easily - Swap them with Grade 8's before you ride it!
Airbox is impossible to service - and the box to boot system doesn't seal. Silicone it before you ride or dirt will fry the motor quickly.
These seem to be the major issues that need to be resolved with a good percentage of the units. Its ashame because with another 30 minutes invested during assembly they could probably resolve most of these issues.
We've now had 4) 70's come back due to loss of compression and several with rear end problems.
Those in the market for a kids ATV would be best to spend a few hundred more dollars on a Xtreme or Eton ATV in my opinion. We have had these for a while and they are very sound units that rarely come back (an occasional carb to clean out).
Food for thought

To tighten the chain, you have to loosen the 4 swing arm bolts. Then tighten the small nut on the threaded rod that hooks to the swing arm. You basically have to swing the axle out counterclockwise to tighten the chain.
