Yamoto 150cc Review
#415
We took the yamoto 150 out for a ride monday and it performed great. The engine performed well on a couple of hill climbs and we clocked it again for top speed. Still 32 mph even with the uni filter and the answer muffler, not to mention the new wheel bearings. Oh well, the wife says it is fast enough for her.

Haven't been here in a long time but here goes:
as far as replacing the air filter with a k&n and it not running like it used to, it sounds to me like it needs to be re-jetted (richer) because of the increased airflow (assuming you are no longer running the stock box). Check your plug, like someone said, try turning your air fuel mixture screw out some more.
Mywifes quad, check this site out for a few mods on this style engine (GY6 clone), I would like to try advancing the timing by elongating the holes on the pulse generator like they have suggested. Although I already have trouble turning the engine over when it is really hot due to the bumped up compression. Would like to modify my transmission also by either lightening the rollers or increasing spring pressure on the driven side of the CVT.
GY6 timing mods
for those who don't know the 150cc is a licensed clone of the honda GY6 scooter engine.
also, tried the NGK iridium plug with some good results, may be worth $10 if you need a plug anyway.

Already tried that, (advancing the cam 1 tooth) what a dog it turned into!
Milling my head retarded my cam 1/2 tooth so I thought I would try advancing it and figured out quick that was the wrong direction to go! I had heard retarding it would help low end and advancing it would help top end. Since I had plenty of low end, I tried it, all in the name of science of course.
as far as the Iridium, I timed it and it consistently came out to be .3 seconds (3 tenths of a second) faster on my little drag strip. The gain was at the lower rpm's. Not much faster but noticeable. probably a bike length at full speed if you were drag racing.
