I am very curious to see what the boot looks like that Tank Sports is sending me as replacement. Wonder if it will be the same as the one I removed or built better
As the valves seat on some motors the valve clearance between the top of the vavle stem and rocker arm gets reduced. If it gets too tight it will actually prevent the vavle from seating. This needs to be adjusted once they are broke in. I know some swear buy it ... some just drive them. I think that on these chinese atv's its probably not a bad idea to check them after a while.

Yamaha wanted me to bring my quad in for it's "service check" which includes adjusting valves for $350.00, I said no thanks I'll do it myself.

There is really only one key thing to remember. It is the cause and there is one effect.

Parts and build quality are poor. This leads to premature failure of components which requires wrenching the thing alot more than a major brand. Really it is that simple.

You have been very lucky to find so easily replacement parts that match those of major brands. I think it is a big mystery and black hole for most of us. You can see by how many posts there are related to "what part do I buy to fix this thing?"

One other mention is resale on a chinese quad is substantially less than a major brand. You might find someone who is clueless but most buyers are reasonably aware of quality issues of chines quads and a used one certainly is not going to be less of headache than even a new one, so actual sell price is likely to reflect that. Don't mean to sound negative but just something to think about.
Everything you mentioned is correct that being the reason why I would never pay the $4000+ price tag on most of these atv's through the majority of the dealers. I figure I should always be able to get around $2000 for a 4x4 quad around here no matter what it is as long as it runs, shifts and 4x4 works.

I'm sharing my experience so people can have some knowledge on this atv not to debate why and who thier cash is going to when they pay registration fees.....

Thanks

No problem at all just didn't want the thread to turn into 20 pages of registration issues about everyones different states

I did get the new pinion seal in tonight, o-ring and most of the rear swing arm back together. I stopped re-assembling everything until tomorrow. I need to find a sleeved threaded bolt for the base of the rear shock. The way the Jianshe setup is assembled, all it uses is a non-threaded bolt with a cotter pin to hold the base of the shock to the swing arm. It not only cheap but I don't like the way the shock is able to sway from side to side while mounted in the swing arm. Not to mention if that cotter pin shears off from wear and you lose that bolt going through the shock base you are completely screwed out in the woods. I'm gonna run to the parts store tomorrow and find the right diameter and length nut and bolt to secure the shock properly. Other than that all the Yamaha parts went together easy and properly the way they should.

As a moderator here I shouldnt have let it happen...Between being blown away at no land in CT and what we lose here in Ca...not to mention windtrader and I have actually met and talked a few times in person...I got carried away...

Very cool that all of the Yamaha parts fit...Looking forward to your ride report.

Get used to getting stuck in the woods with these chinese quads. It adds to the adventure. I started a thread called "don't want to die" as I was contemplating a fairly long (for a chinese quad) trek and odds are something is sure to break at least every few trips out.

Last time out this summer my son and I were heading back from miles out then the quad starts surging, like gas filter is stuck or starving for gas. Finally poops out. Luckily a tree logger was driving by, first car all day and lends me a tow rope. My son pulls me back. Fuel filter is fine. gas flowing fine. start digging into to carb, never been any trouble for two years and find the main jet lying in the bottom of the bowl. Got dozens of other such whack stories about these things. Last week my son takes his out down the road to keep battery charged. Goes good for a bit then stops. Christ what now. No elec. Start tracking from battery. broken wire to battery. always something. Just keep the tools close and keep telling yourself this is a FUN hobby!

Alright guys. im still looking for my clutch plates...etc for my scout-400u. with no luck. went down to my local tank-sports dealer. he was gonna order them from ATV, Scooter, Dirt Bike, Moped, Quad, Motorycle, Go Kart, Buggie, Parts for TANK, Roketa, SUNL, Dazon, Redcat, Kymco, Lance, BMS & more but they are out of stock. so i emailed them. if i cant get the parts from them then i will have a 400pound pile of metal rotting in my yard. becasue without a clutch i cannot even sell it. and i dont want to try the tusk clutch kit for the yamaha 400 4x4 becasue if that dosnt fit then i still have to pay the shop for wasteing there time. but i guess if ATV, Scooter, Dirt Bike, Moped, Quad, Motorycle, Go Kart, Buggie, Parts for TANK, Roketa, SUNL, Dazon, Redcat, Kymco, Lance, BMS & more cannot get me my parts then that is my last shot. other than parts my jianshe 400 mountain lion has been great to me, however this is a pretty big hump to get over!

Not good at all, I would try the tusk clutch kit. I am almost positive it will be the same and better quality than you are going to get from any chinese supplier making them. The top end of the motor looks identical to the Yamaha 400 even the valve covers. I am guessing that the case covers on the lower end are only different. Even the carbuerator, air intake box/snorlkle setup is identical looks wise. Probably made of different material though but very similar if not exact. I think you have a good chance the tusk kit will work. I could be wrong but i've done quite a bit of research on this atv and learned quite a bit over the past few months. Good luck

yeah. well if i can get the clutch from tanksports then i will becasue it is a garenteed match. but even if i do get it from them i will have my dealer compare it to a yamaha one. just so you guys will know for sure. but by the looks of tanksports i may just take the $75 charge plus the clutch. theres nothing else i can do.

thanks alot for your responce
