1995 honda 300 quad

G'day All
I have a 1995 honda 300cc quad that I thought had dead battery an wouldn't turn over, as it turns out it did have a dead battery I think it dropped a cell so I went to fit a new battery an when i went to connect the positive lead to the battery the starter motor started to run with the key off, an the lead arced on the battery. I have tried everything an I still can't seem to find the problem can anyone help me.
I even fitted a new solenoid an it did same thing its been sitting in the shed for year or so
If anyone can help I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks Rob.

It can't do that unless you have ignition on, with a new solenoid. The old solenoid could have been stuck, but for it to try to run with a new solenoid the start button on the handlebars must be stuck and the ignition switched on. Only other possibility is you have got the solenoid and battery leads mixed up, pos from battery to solenoid, motor lead to other side of solenoid. It is just possible that the red or pink wire from fuses could have shorted onto the thin red/yellow solenoid wire, but that is highly unlikely.

Nice looking atv's, guy's one thing don't ever snorkel them, it kills the value of the atv. I've passed up buying some nice looking four wheeler's when I seen they had been snorkeled. I have a 05 Suzuki Eiger 4x4 and a 08 Arctic Cat 650 H1 TRV.
