I have a modified 87 250R and a 2000 ninja zx9r and my friends have drag cars and banshees. The real question in racing is power to weight ration, my 250R weighs in at 550 lbs with me on it and has about 50 RWHP = 11 lbs per hp. My ninja weighs about 650 lbs with me on it and has dynoed 135 RWHP = 4.81 lbs per hp. A 5.0 or a vette weighs in at 2000 lbs with driver and has about 300 RWHP = 6.6 lbs per hp. Who is the winner well that depends on gearing my friends. My ninja definitely has the best advantage ratio but if it's not geared to run a certain way then it doesn't matter. My ninja will run a high 9 second 1/4 mile and top out 180 mph. there aren't too many street legal cars that can do that and my ninja is stock. As for my 250R, it's much faster accelerating then anything i've ridden but it tops out at 60 mph, which it will hit in less than 660 ft...1/8th mile.....not that i would want to go 100 mph on my quad but if it were geared to go that the power to weight ratio would catch up and it would be a pooch. also if i were to gear my ninja down to go lets say only 130 mph it would accelerate even faster than it does but it would be redicously fast and would require wheelie bars to keep the front end down in every gear. So what have we learned from all this...4-wheelers aren't all that fast or powerfull, just geared low to go up steep hills and power to weight ration combined with the correct gearing to match the distance is really what makes a fast drag racer. now run along and ponder what I have told you! :-)

Greetings,

This reminds me of a "trick bet" made famous by Amarillo Slim -- at one-time the world's champion gambler. He would bet anyone $10,000 that he could beat their horse in a 100-yard foot race. This included race horses or any other kind, and he would run it in cowboy boots.

The trick was that he would set up the race for 50 yards out and 50 yards back. The horse would beat him on the first leg of the race, but horses don't stop and turnaround very quickly (maybe a few cutting horses could do it, but certainly not a race horse). He would be at the finish line before the horse even started back.

So the point (if we have one at all in this thread) might be that its all in how you structure the race.

RaptorRider, sure, that Mustang could be a stock bike, but what about an equally modified bike?
A bone-stock 'Busa (a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa, for those of you who aren't into street bikes) runs 9.95 @ 143mph, and its quite possible to get it into the low 8's (its been done before).

Are you sure you want to put that thing up against a REAL bike?
