Had the 650 prairie in some deep water for a while and heard the belt squeeking a little, couldnt just forget about it so i took the cover off to see where water may of come in .It appeared to be a little belt dust collecting where water may have come in .It looks like where that silinoid that mounts to the cover with three bolts had some seepage it dosent appear to be water tight.Should it bee ? Has anyone experieced the same problem? It looks like i could use a gasket or somthing to keep the water out?

Water is not the problem, mine did the same thing, its improper belt deflection, you will have to take off the secondary and put a thinner washer (spacer) between the secondary halfs. To do this spread the two halfs apart with a pair of channel locks that have rubber coated handles put the handle between the halves and pry apart, the back half should move, remove the belt, remove the lock nut, and slide the secondary off, there are four buttons that act as rollers for the helex and they are not held in place and can drop off as you take off the clutch. Place the clutch on a flat surface push the spring retainer down and remove the split ring. You cannot seperate the halfs unless the buttons are removed and they are a BEAR to get back in. Reassemble. You might want a dealer to do this for you, and if they dont sell snomobiles they might not know what they are doing. This is not for the first time mechanic. I should mention I had to use the spacer out of a Ski DOO and opened the hole with a high speed grinder.

I need to do this too. How did you get the drive pulley off. The tool from Kawasaki costs $76. Did you get that drive pulley puller somewhere else cheaper????
Also, I thought the sevice manual said you could remove a spacer if the deflection was too much. That's what I need to do. I would like to do this WITHOUT taking it to the dealer. Can you please provide more details on the tricks you used to reinstall these buttons. What are they exactly. Thanks.

Mine has been at the Dealer for a week waiting on the back-ordered shims and I was told it could be as much as 8 weeks before they will get them! I can ride with the loose belt condition, but eventually something might happen. What is so hard about machining these shims in time for their need?..........

You do not have to remove the primary. There is no tool needed to pull the secondary, the trick is getting the belt off first. use the channel lock I mentioned to pry the clutchs apart. use a Ski Doo Shim and grind the hole large enough to slip over the shaft. I would guess the shim was half the thickness of the origonal, if you go to thin the belt will squeel when idel because the belt is to tight. I made a tool to hold the button in place to install them, they are a bear.

The spacers or "shims" come in three different thicknesses. You may have to use a combination of sizes to set the belt deflection in spec, not too loose or too tight. It is between 0.87 and 1.09 inches or something close like that. Taking one of them out may make the belt too tight. I hope my Dealer has checked to see if there is one they could remove to get it in spec., and not just assumed that they can't begin to work on it without having the spacers in stock. Sometimes when you ask them specific questions the service people really get ticked off........
