Hello Everyone,

As you may know, I will be in the process of purchasing either a 2002 Kawasaki Prairie 650 V-Twin or a 2003 model. I heard from the grapevine that Kawasaki may put IRS on the 650 in 2003 and I do not want IRS. Also, do you think that Kawasaki will fix the bugs with the 2002 model? Any information would be greatly appreciated on this.

Thank You,

IronBear

I doubt they will put IRS on a second year model. It would not be cost effective to make a major change like that to an already successful model. The cost to re-tool would be outragous and besides to add IRS would require a revised model from the ground up. I think it's just that - a rumor.

Thanks for the information,

That is a good thing. I would like the sport feel by kicking the rear end around. I'm sure you can do this with IRS suspension, but I would think it would be much more difficult.

Thanks again,

Yes,just ask my brother about kicking the rear end around and attempting 360's with his sp500,9 broken ribs, punctured lung,11 days in intensive care unit,oh yea just try to ride that big ole sportsman like it's a raptor or something,he's a first time quad owner at 45 years old,and it sure take's a long time to heal.I tried to tell him,but had to find out the hard way! The best thing they could do would be to make an IRS model, and then sell both of them. That would pretty much corner the big bore market for kawasaki.

I agree with Bassham. That would probably hurt Yamaha in the big-bore sales.

I think IRS is out of the question, but I would bet on stiffer and or adjustable front struts and maybe some color options.
