GAS In My OIL 03 p650
The choke springs come in a kit that is called "plunger" on the parts diagram.
The only Prairies with inferior springs are "some" of the 02 650s. My 02 never had the choke prob. I think you are looking in the wrong direction on you 03.
I don't think you are going to solve the gas issue by getting a new pluger or stiffer springs.
This is what I know fixes the gas in oil problem:
-Always turn the gas valve off. That should do the trick every time.
-Always fill tank when you leave it parked for a few days. The more gas in the tank the lower the probability that fuel lock will occur. This isn't the best solution, but it could work.
-You might consider removing the fuel vent check valve and install a small fuel filter (in place of the valve), or run the hose all the way forward under the speedometer where the other vents are. Watch that the hose isn't close to an exhaust pipe. You should be able to find the offending valve on the tank breather hose somewhere under the seat area. Follow the hose.

GAS In My OIL 03 p650
Thanks Nyroc, heres my situation, I'm buying this 03' Prairie from a Polaris dealer (trade in) I go to pick it up last night and I smelled the dipstick and whoofta GAS! Then I took it for a ride and it was blowing smoke, there service tech said he thought it was the needle valve, I was thinking the machine had just been flooded bad. They agreed to change the oil and replace the needle valves and I requested a compression test in case of ring damage. I'll have them replace all springs because they said they would fix it anyway, and I'll keep the gas off from now on. Sound good?
so just my fyi, if anything it would be the plunger spring, I looked up the diagram pn16016? How do I attach a pic here? I have the diagram.

Most of the '03s I've seen had the weak springs. Your Polaris dealer may have a heart attack if he does a compression check. The auto-decompression system causes the readings to be very low. It's a good chance to see if the dealer is honest - if he says the compression is good, ask him what the readings were.
With a hot engine and the throttle wide open, the normal range is only 47-81 pounds. If the dealer says "it's got 125lbs" you say BS!

i never turn my fuel off, even when im hauling them into the mountains, dirt roads etc.i leave them in the sun during the summer, sometimes full sometimes empty and i never have a problem. the problem relates back to the choke springs, fix them by removing them or replacing them with some proper springs. and then your problems will be solved.

it was the "choke springs." They are not really "chokes" ( choke off air ) .... they are "fuel enrichment valves" ( adding extra gas
from the float bowl at start up)
It is true that shutting off the gas valve stops the gas from pushing through the open fuel enrichment valves when setting......
however, that didn't help with the other problem, which was that after it got warm, and didn't need the extra fuel ( from the
valve(s) being partly open, and it ran like you were leaving the choke applied.
Installed the heavy duty springs (nyrocs web page) ..... ALL problems solved. It has been two months now. I have intentationaly
not turned the fuel off even once in that time. It runs perfect, starts easy.... and has only oil in crank case now. ....
and I don't have to turn the fuel off !

If you don't have the updated fuel enrichener plunger return springs, get them. '02 or '03 Prairie, it doesn't matter, they're still using the weak (old) springs. I had my front cylinder filled with gas twice and had to keep changing the oil. Finally discovered the root cause and changed the choke return springs. That was a year ago; no more gas in the oil and I never shut the fuel valve off. (Unless I'm hauling it on the trailer, of course).

The return spring problem is exaggerated by low fuel level and leaving the fuel petcock turned on. The lower the fuel in the tank, the more air there is. Air expands far more than gasoline and creates extra pressure in the tank. This forces fuel past the unseated choke prunger.

This has only happened to me on a low tank. That sounds backwards doesn't it.

I have a '98 mule 2510 4x4 that consistantly dilutes the oil with gas. It has a 620 v-twin motor with Mikuni carb. Although the problems are simular there are some diff. in the fuel system. It has a fuel pump (not grav fed), it has no stop **** to turn the fuel off, and it holds no pressure in the feul system. With that being said do you think its possible that these enrichner springs could fix my problem????
