Using trail/route mileage values from the Draft Michigan ORV Plan 2005 (5/4/2005), page 27, cycle trail mileage is 32% of the total mileage. The wider routes -- ATV trails and ORV routes -- make up 68% of the total mileage.

I seriously doubt children under 12 were given much, if not, any consideration whatsoever when it came to the trail system. I'm guessing the people that were actually thought about were the people I referred to in my last post. We are the ones paying for these 6 thousand dollar "toys", thousand dollar trailers, and 30 thousand dollar vehicles to pull our equipment to go riding, not to even mention the gas to get there or the hotel for staying out so we can play. I can respect the fact that some people wanna take their kids out to the trails and ride with the family. But the fact of the matter is I should'nt have to have my riding area cut down or restricted just because some people are riding with their kids and wanna go slow whether it be on a dirtbike or an ATV. I'm sorry but unless there's a speed limit in the area those people need to speed up or get the hell outta the way. I did'nt buy my ATV and pay for everything else that goes with it, including that $16.25 for the yearly ORV sticker to follow children on a trail. The state should be responsible with the money I give them every year in taxes and fees that come with riding my ATV and keep the trails in good shape and widen em up. I bet most of the people on here will agree with me in saying the trails should be widened.
Respectfully.
Respectfully.

My bad. I guess I was thinking dirt biker can use all the trails and ATV's only 2/3 of the trail. Don't dirt bikes comprise something like 20% of the registered ORV's while keeping 32% of the trails for their use. It seems like the numbers would suggest more wide trails and additional new trails to be accessible to all.Fair?

I have always supported a 60 inch trail and will continue to do so. I dont buy into the BS that a wider trail is an unsafe trail either. EVERY ORV/ATV operator has the RESPONSABILITY to operate their machines at a rate of speed that is proper and prudent for exsisting trail conditions and to NOT operate OUTSIDE of their own known skill levels,REGARDLESS of the width of the trail-------------PERIOD!
If your operating your ORV/ATV outside of the above guidelines and you get into an accident or mishap, you have ABSOLUTELY no right to blame the width of the trail for the mishap and you DESERVE what you might get for not following the RULES of SAFE and RESPONSABLE ORV/ATV use--------------PERIOD!
I get so damn sick and tired of listening to the dirt bike riders [and some ATVers] bitch and moan about a wider trail being unsafe. If everyone follows the RULES outlined in the Michigan ORV Guidebook for safe and responsable ORV/ATV use, we'll be a much safer riding community regardless of trail width.
