Kind of off topic, but was curious. Do they charge to ride the trails, or does the money from registration stickers cover that?

scooter, the H/M section of the pinnacle creek trail sytem is under their current sticker fee.
However there is a vast (2-3 days worth of riding) adjacent to the H/M section that is free, No user fee. It's serviced by trailside gas and rest stops, etc.. Its a nice setup. I tend to go to the H/M section just to give them my dollars, however I still enjoy riding the " Free section" occasionally with the wife and all 6 Kids!

Thanks. They have proposed possibly opening state run parks here. Currently, any riding areas are private, and on private land. Don't foresee a vast trail system, just parks that hopefully aren't too small.

Not to put words in your mouth....yet might possibly have you weighed the fact that not a single cyclist lost his or her right to ride that area as a result of your supporting true multi-use trails?

"... I have found that this relation gives a fairly good result of give and take, and have several "ATV ONLY" friends who have given up a weekend to help do some leg work in creating some single track even though they will have absolutely no benefit from it, OTHER than the formation of friendships that show a united front..."

Which is exactly what would happen in Michigan (in a true parallel system) AFTER these arrogant idiots gave up their current massive mileage of me-only trails to exhibit the same united front you refer to above.

"...theres nothing wrong with 2 groups wanting 2 different results from a trail, however if the goverening council that oversees that creation of trails, caters to only one group, or is heavily sided with one group because of personal preference, then it will create hostility that seems to be so prevalent in this thread...."

Again, you hit it right on the head.
We're not talking about one group insisting that the single track or the multi-use path be built 'first' on the same mileage or loop (with the understanding that we will ride all together on this proposed trail)....we're talking about one group insisting that over 40% of a 3,000 mile system be forever shut down to the majority of those out using same.....and that our 'priorities' should lie in simply creating more "me-only" trails within what's left!

"...I never asked you BB, did you ever get a chance to ride the Pinnacle creek area of WV? I know I spoke about it over at utilityoffroad...."

I haven't; yet have been encouraged by the new probationary period given these side-by-sides on the H/M system. Had dinner with a guy Saturday that took off from that area and rode into VA. and KY. for 5 days straight ending up in (I think) Williamson. Camped for two nights and found hotels for the balance. On the last night, he was evidently watching CNN as it showed a couple murdered riding atvs in the same county he had just come through. Something about that they had gotten to close to somebodys meth operation up in the mountains. The highlight of talking to him was a DVD received that showed the connector into Williamson and parts of the Rockhouse multi-use trail system taken by helmet-cam that I haven't seen in years. Boy have the trails changed (I think for the better) with the only disappointment I saw being the big hill into Matewan eliminated for the sake of novices being able to safely get in and out of town.(which you can't blame the business people for desiring).

Sorry to get off-topic; as I'd discuss the fantastic job that these people have done on this groundbreaking and historic system until the cows came home..... (isn't it ironic that the only motorcycle trails in Appalachia.....are those you couldn't/wouldn't want to take a light 4-wheeler up anyways?).

It's a debate that I have taken part of on numerous occasions and is a subject that is slowly debilitating the ORV community.... The only way to protect our riding areas is to put aside our petty differences for the good of the whole...."
Not to belittle this man or woman's opinion; yet this is the exact response one will get when questioning any one of the national orv organizations on any of the issues we have discussed here openly on Atv Connection.

Mention anyone connected with the AMA, NOHVCC, Blue Ribbon or any other national organization that sends non-profit representation to some national "don't rock the boat' conference all expenses paid or wrote off....and it's almost like "by gosh, you can't say a word regarding how Joe Blow from Michigan is fracturing the community with me-only mileage...by gosh, his wife and mine had one heck of a good time sitting by the hotel pool last year while we AMA guys sat in the conference room discussing how 'motorcycle and atv racing' is now/always will be...the most important 'legacy' driven portion of our sport!..."

Yeah, "put away our differences" all right...in other words; when these two wheeled guys stride into the room reeking of pure arrogance?...by gosh stand down and allow these people to brainwash yet another generation as to how their mileage should be considered 'separately' from the rest of us and argued (privately, of course) in the same manner. BB, I lost some PREFERRED trail, I guess that would be the better terms.

Again, off topic, BUT the free area of pinnacle creek (also known as wagon wheel) is Very RUV friendly, I have some pics of our Ranger adventure there last fall. was ALOT of fun, and saw quite a few Rhinos.

Muddy4Life/May of '06: "..WE are under NO obligation to speak word one.. about ANYTHING that went on in last Wednesdays ORV meeting.."

Small wonder why the title of this thread originally penned as "What is really going on in Michigan".....is now belittled in the same manner as these state authored public meeting descriptions that nobody seems willing to comment on.

I guess it's not the fact that others blatantly attempt to shove these discussions behind closed doors (see the balance of my signature)....it's the support they get from those wishing that these legitimate discussions would just "go away" also or (better yet) simply be 'trvialized' in this manner. If you're now a "Muddy4Life" fan, MWQ....I'll let the blalance of this membership that's dealt directly with him over all these years make their own assumptions.....
