2001 Scrammy 4x4 front hubs clicking into 4x4 when jumping
Intermitantly when I come off a jump or in mud, when my rear tires are spining real fast one of the front hubs will lock in.
The 4x4 switch is in the off position. I have taken them apart and inspected them all looks good.
I know that when power is applied to the armature plate its causes the one section to ramp up and engage the hub.
So I do not think it can be stray electrical current causing this, intitially I thought it must mechanical, but not seeing any abnormalities when I toook them apart, I am stumped.....
Any ideas? I must have missed something, right?

My front right was doing the same thing, I just tore it apart cleaned everything, refilled the hub, and have had no problems with it since. A guy at the cliffs today had his lock in full time and would not come out, we tried everything reverse and all, and they still would not come out?
I seen an add for ski attachment for the front and it says for polaris quads, make sure your awd is in the off position, The skis mount to the front tires, I thought to myself mine engages by it self every once in awial, that would look real funny if it engaged with a ski straped to it. lol
Be carefull as a guy I talked to the other day had to replace both his front ujoints going to the front hubs. He was doing donuts full throttle and they engaged on him and the torq snaped both of them in half.

I don't know what is going on there. One thing you can do that will take the coils out of the mix is to disconnect them under the front hood. If you follow the wires from the coils, you will see the connections to unhook. Something to try

Yeah, I guess I will take them apart again and clean the heck out of them.
And I have had them kick in while doing donuts, luckily for me I was in the snow!
Still had a sore *** and a quad about 20 yards away from me.
I will also try disconnecting the wires first to see if thats it.
Thanks for the replies!

Mine will bump in while I'm riding wheelies once in a great while. I do believe it to be mechanical. You see your whole front shaft would be turning just like you lost traction. So we have the front axles turning as they should by design. Now what I believe is happening is any small amount of force, wether it's centrifical or just gravity helps force the rollers against the ramps and you get mechanical engagement and not electrical or magnetic. It is even worse if there is lack of good lubrication or dirty hub oil. This makes the rollers grab the ramps even easier. At least that is what I think is going on.

I am just worried I may break something, I am going to tear into this week and try it out next weekend..
I'll go get it spinning in the mud in 2wd and see if I can make it happen. To be honest thats is where I really think it will break something. \
I will def. post my findings.

Hey man like they said drain the hub oil and do this often as to it is so simple, make sure it is the exact level is says in the manual 4&8 o clock( i think). Loosen the bearing nut and do the procedure to retighten to make sure it is not to tight causing engagment. This should clear it up .
