Yes can be done on the machine, just pull the outside cover so that you are taking pressure off the spring. You should have a puller makes maintenance far easier. You can do a better job of cleaning the clutch also. You can make your own lok in this album.

I have installed the Dalton Blk/WHT spring and am not crazy about the outcome. Gas mileage is down with minimal increase in throttle response or performance. What difference will the 2/2 set up make? How hard is it to change this setting?

just pull the secondary off by the center bolt and then w/ a good pair of snap ring pliers you push down on the helix a little and thenpull the ring off. becare its under pressure and it will come out w/ force some times. pay attention to the the preload because you'll have to repreload it when you put it back together. when the helix comes out you'll see the spring holes(which should be numbered) to put it in the 2/2 if thats what your doing.
