Nightclerk on my rzr when i first got it i would get that same smell after many rides it hes went away. After talking with others it acts like the plastics from all around the exhaust , and from behind the seats and the bed would give off a burnt rubber smell. It seems with each heat cycle to be less and less if that makes sense.I only noticed all the oils and that kind of stuff burning off on my first ride with the new 850.

I'm kind of leaning toward it being the fiber filled heat shield giving off the smell. I put the belt through a real good work out today, but didn't smell anything. I had to take down a large tree that was struck by lightning and was ready to fall. Lets just say I put the belt to the test today moving some large sections of that tree. One of which was larger and heavier than anything I ever drug with the 800 and the 850 did it with relative ease. When I hooked to it I only intended to turn it so I could cut it into smaller pieces more easily. But it moved it so easily I decided to leave it in one piece and drag it to the pile about 100 yards away. The log was easily 1500#+. No burning belt smell once so ever. Nothing high speed and no smell. I have only had the smell after running fast and quickly stopping. I think the higher speed extended WOT operation gets the exhaust hot enough to put off the strange burning rubber smell from the fiber...that is my theory anyway.
