warped clutch cover on y2k trailboss
#1
I noticed a rattling out of my clutch cover, the dealer said it is warped from overheating (I don't have a low gear). He said Polaris won't cover it even though its under warranty, dealer won't either. I was told that I can run it this way, and it won't hurt anything, it's just a little noisy. The dealer also said that Polaris is soon putting out a new cover that is thicker and won't warp. Isn't that like admitting the old one was faulty??
Anyone know if I can run it safely with the slightly warped cover, and how to get Polaris to cover a new one???
Thanks

I've had the exact same thing happen to me with my clutch cover when it got water inside there and got too hot and the dealer covered mine under warranty. It doesnt sound like there being very honest so I would look for a different dealership especially when they cost about $60.00 to replace.

Will, It makes a low rapping noise at low idle only. I can put my hand on the cover and feel something hitting it. The local Polaris dealer, not the one I bought it from, got Polaris to OK the cover under warranty (and the belt). He suggests waiting until my warranty is almost up and them replacing it. Polaris said they will do it only once ????
They also said they are working on a better cover, but when I asked by email they say its already out and on the 2000 models.

Since we're talking about a "cover" here, Polaris should "cover" it under warranty! On our old Scrambler, the clutch was defective, the cooling fin part was not welded to the primary clutch itself properly. When the clutch would heat up enough, those cooling fins would stop turning. One day it got really hot and warped the clutch cover. Polaris covered a new clutch and all new covers when it was OUT of warranty. You shouldn't have a problem getting them to cover it, unless they aren't as lenient as they used to be. Maybe all of these machine sales are driving them nuts in the customer service and parts departments! You sell more machines, your bound to have more problems and more frustrations, right?
