Wow been crazy round here. I bought a 1976 Starcraft Starlette XL Pop-up camper and then I turned around and bought a 2006 F250 Superduty 4x4. Anywho I hope to get the motor on the quad completely assembled today and if things calm down have it running by this weekend.</end quote></div>
Hey Gforce! Can't wait to hear the report on your new engine! That superduty sounds cool too! It should pull that popup like it wasn't even there.
Hey, I was gonna say something about the jug from Kustom Kraft. I got mine a couple weeks ago and it looks like they sandblasted the head gasket surface. I don't know how that will go, but I intend to sand it smooth. I thought I'd bring it up to see what you thought.

Try reversing the wires on the coil that is inside the magneto cover. Not the lighting coil, but the other one. I had the same kinda problem on mine. I bought a new coil and installed it and got no spark. I checked everything with a VOM and everything seemed fine. Then, I read the instructions,,, lol... At the bottom it said to reverse the wires if no spark. Do that before calling customer service.
I don't know anything about the magneto being too close. I don't think there is an adjustment. But, I never had the magneto off the cover, so I can't say for sure. Remember to use red locktite on ALL screws inside the cover. They can come off and cause a more painful sight inside your engine than your avatar.</end quote></div>
Ok, I pulled the cover off today and checked it out a lil bit. All the wires I saw in there seem to be soldered on. So how do I go about swaping the wires around on here without mucking anything up?
Also there was a very tiny bit of real fine metal on the magneto. So could this be sanded down a bit with some fine grit sand paper to try and make a better contact?
Thanks for the info and help.

Ok, I wiped away the metal, put it all back together, added oil, and kicked it over and had some spark. I was like "hell yeah woot". I throw the plug in jump on it and it busts right off and runs great. I took it around the yard a few times and about half way back to the house bam its deader than a door nail.
Note: I haven't switched those wires over cause I wasen't sure which ones to swap.

Sounds like a loose wire somewhere.

That's a fine looking quad there BruinCat! Can you tell if the original frame color was blue? If it is, is an 87, 88. Also, my 86 came with steel back rims, unless your's are aftermarket rims, its probably an 87, 88. The swingarm is definitely 87, 88.

Alright so I pulled the magneto cover off again to check and see if there was any adjustment to it, and got it to move down a little. I put it all back together and it started up and ran great for an hour or so. I was sitting there in neutral with it idling it died and wont start again. Now I was doing some searching around on the forum and found a post that said there wasent supposed to be oil in that side of the case, is that correct? Could the oil in that side of the case be effecting my spark?
If that is the case what is it going to entail to repair this?
