All the s-arm bearings are the same. Try this http://www.rockymountainatv.co...yId=2072#vehicleSelect

That's what I got. Then I got a new bolt too. http://www.bikebandit.com/hous...v-lt230sh-1987/o/m6368 Click on the "rear swingarm" pic. The bolt is #7. Its $35.

Mine has the plug. Ithink this is on all years. 85 to 88.<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: JustRandy

Black is not 87.... Does your engine have the place for an odometer? I'm pretty sure only the 85 and 86 had that. SHould be on the left side under the carb and on top of the engine case. A little plug you'd never guess what its for if I hadn't already said something. [IMG][/IMG]</end quote></div>

Yeah, I guess I was off. The 88 is the only yr that doesn't have it. THe 85, 86, and 87 has the trip meter. Check it out. http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_atv_parts.htm

Some reason I was thinking the 87 didn't. Got mixed up some how.

I think i see what your talking about. The meter was not an option in 88. But I think there is still a plug in the 88 block. (I think) <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: JustRandy

You could be right. I still can't figure out why I was thinking only the 85 n 86 had it. If the plug was there, though, why wouldn't they offer the meter as an option? I'll look in the service manual and see if there is anything said about it.

If you go back to alphasports and look at the transmissions on each year, 1988 is the only one not listing #51 and #52 (the sleeve and gear that drives the trip meter). It's shown in the pic, but not available to buy. The plug is listed though. So, the plug could be in the 88 too. I guess they all probably have the plug just like BigMc said. Back to square one about the yr of that engine then.

The service manual didn't say anything about a trip meter. The only other way to tell anything about the years of engines is to look for the changes inside,,, like oil pump gears n that kinda thing.

Bruicat, I think somebody just put an 87 or newer s-arm on yours because the bearings were probably bad in the original. The 87, 88 just happened to be what they had available to them.</end quote></div>

not that the year matters too much, but i did get the # off the engine. its J411-156482. is there some way of identifying what year by that #? is it the swing arm that wont accept diff year bearings or the frame? also is there anything i need to watch for when pulling the left engine cover?

man i need a repair manual...</end quote></div>

Your engine is a 1988. My number is J411-157856 and up until several months ago I thought my whole quad was a 1986, but someone along the line of ownership kept the original qaud and carb but swapped the engine. One of the easiest ways is to look at your oil filler cap, if it's silver its a 1988. Also there is a transition from parts, like friction disc and and plates for your clutch....in other words if you're engine number is up to and I can't remember the exact transition number but it's in the the 130's so something like 136000 or below you order these parts if it's below then a different set of part numbers. Same with my front sprocket cover I ordered (before I knew my engine was a different year) a 1986 cover and it never fit right.
