Well, what I'm doing to my swingarm is cutting the old tube out and welding in a piece of metal from an old ford 9 inch axle shaft that I had a machinist bore to the correct size for the bearings. The stock tube will bend and distort.... the ford 9 inch axle will not!

Those bearings were brand new! The stock setup just sucks!

I do love a challenge! Already errored. Guy I got " MMZUKI " from must have ran the street alot. Tires had 0 tread. Put 22" on the back last week.</end quote></div>
Oh well, what can you do...
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote> I read the thread on using a piece of an old swing arm to lengthen. Is that " THE WAY "?</end quote></div>
What ever way works. BigMc has pics of his swingarm mod. I was going to do the same sorta thing with mine, only on the other side of the shock. Should be a simple project compared to the a-arm mods.

Also when I get the big bore ready I was going to put a new rod on my crank, and all new bearings. Good idea? You mentioned sending the crank off. Why? I see another error. My new cobra pipe will also be here tomorrow.</end quote></div>
You have to send off the crank to get a new rod on.... Unless you have the heavy equipment needed to do it yourself. I don't,,, that's for sure. I'm sending mine off to Vince at http://vincescycle.tripod.com/newparts/lt230s.html
Everybody I've talked to says the aftermarket pipes are just too loud. And not sure about any performance increase over the stock one. However, I noticed a big increase taking the bolts out of the muffler.... and its not that loud.... and is free. (actually, I drilled even more holes under there )

I like a little loud. Where I ride there ain't really nobody to complain. ( And my hearing ain't the best these days ) But the problem is the guy I got my 230 from already gutted the stock exhaust. NO BAFFLES. The bike runs great after 1/4 throttle. Not ehough back pressure I think.
The guy that used to do the machine work on my drag car engines is also a great machinist. He'll love the 9" ford idea. Thanks for the pics. I bought a used jug, head and valve cover on e-bay today to use with my big bore for $41.00. My machinist is itchin to get that little head on his flow bench and " play ".

Be sure you read everything this man has to say before you do any porting. http://mototuneusa.com/thanx.htm It will probably take you a couple days to read it all.
I got my big tubes of JB weld from amazon.com a while back. They're sitting on the shelf waiting. (you'll understand after you read motoman's stuff).
Taking the baffles out really doesn't do much. Its the spark arrestor that adds all the backpressure. I tried to make mine bigger, but it didn't help any. Its still too restrictive.
