I welded in 460 ford wrist pins to make them longer. What metal is stronger than that???

How your piston should look before assembly:

Takes a lot of sanding and polishing.

Now this is what I call a forum! You got me itchin to tear all kind of things apart. I looked at Vince's, great deal, with a rod even! Randy, you really got me thinkin. Thanks for all the pics! But I better do the baby steps, ( Engine First ) or knowing me i'll be doin more reinventing than riding.
1 last thing for tonight... Didn't I read a thread in here that the 250 axles are wider and will fit the 230 housing? Or was it just change the whole axle?

The 250 axle could be a little wider. Not real sure.... I know my bud's 250 was a little wider, but it could have been rims/tires, but could have been axle too. Its not a lot anyway. Get the douglas offset rims. Those widen that back a good bit. A wheel spacer should make up the rest you need. So far, I haven't seen a need for anything other than a 230 axle, douglas rims, and decent low-profile tires that slip just the right amount. I suppose wider might be better, but it also adds precious weight which means slower acceleration.

While I'm on the weight issue.... Its important to keep everything that spins as light as possible. ie. tires, rims, rear sprocket, chain,,, even tranny gears and flywheel! Keep this thing light is the key to making guys on bigger quads scratch their heads in confusion. I'm even to the point of wanting to construct an aluminum frame! The engine only weighs about as much as a car battery, so the rest of the 315lbs is frame n tires. No reason this thing can't weigh in at 250 or so. The difference in a 300 lb quad and a 350+ lb quad is like a 230 and a 230 with a bag of concrete strapped to the seat. .... and I don't see too many guys riding with bags of concrete, so it must suck! Ok, I am back after a long hyatus and something going on witht eh forum not sending me updates to the thread(?) I got in on this thread the first day and I can't believe it has grown to 187 pages!

Hey BigMC, shows you how serious 230 owners are doesn't it.

I am finally getting to wanting to replace the crear shock and lengthening the swing arm. I should have it torn aprt soon to put the new bearing carrier on, so that should be a good time to paly with things. I have an extra swingarm, but want to save one at stock length incase i do not like the loger one or need to "re-do" it.

Who has found a good replacment shock with out costing a fortune by going with a "Works"?

I've noticed you don't always get thread updates. For instance, if you come back and look at my reply and then don't comment,,, you probably won't get another email and 5 more pages will go by before you come back to check. Thats about the way it works for me anyway.

The 250S shock has an external ressy. I don't know if that means its 'better', but the quad rides 10x better than the 230. I think BigMc has a 250S.... at least part of one.

I was always looking for a rear off a 250s but when i find one they are priced like gold for some reason. I may just get one off a late model with rezzy and just make it work if or when I do the swinger extension. I can get a LT450 one for about $20, but am not completely sure of the dimensions, especially in regards of the sideways mounted Rezzy.

Any shock should work, but you might have to install a cable or strap to keep the shock from going out too far.

Waz up fellers???
Back from Alaska, tell ya what, if you haven't been there, figure a way to go as soon as possible!! I was impressed by yellowstone, yosemite, grand canyon, etc...
But compared to this???
If you love nature, and the beauty it can bring, Alaska is it!!!

Huge fish, scenery, history, if their women were good looking, I'd call it paradise!

Welcome new guys, and "old" new guys!! Tons of quad riding up there as well!!!
