Randy: that graph of the cams is really interesting...the power the 250 makes at high rpms is insane!!!

Poolgod: that trip sounds like an amazingly awesome time!!! im jealous

Yeah, but my hunch is the 230 cam is faster in the trails.... Unless you stay at 9000 rpm all the time. I'll know in a few more days after I get the head ported out, get my bigass KN filter, and my new dial-a-jet. I'm going all out on this air flow thing. Thanks for the dial-a-jet tip PG! I'm about done with carb tuning... The fun of learning is long gone and its just TOO much like work.

Talk about embarassing.... If yours have been sitting for months, that means I haven't stoppped working on mine for months. [img][/img] Has it really been that long???? I know I've been going steady since the pics of the RM250 was on here. Dedication or addiction? [img][/img]</end quote></div>

Well I couldn't believe you are still researching cams haha. Thats a pretty trick muffler you made there

I've thought about parting with the ol' 230 a few times, but I just cant bring myself to do it. The top end I put on should be good for another 20 years anyway

That's an awesome video! Well made!

It was fun to watch too, lol. Everytime I saw you go around those curves and wobble that back tire I thought about my 4 ft wide quadsport.

Cool vid though.... Keep em coming.

LOL. Well, I stopped for a long time. When I helped my bud rebuild his 250s I could tell the cam was different just looking at it. And then side-by-side it was plain as day there was a big difference. (He even checked to be sure I didn't sneak the 230 cam in his head, lol). So, I called webcams and they didn't know what the specs were for the 250 cam. I couldn't find them anywhere and I just had to know. Plus, another friend is thinking about a cam for his warrior. All that got me back into it just recently. Not to mention I have that big high flow muffler and,,, wait till you see the size of the KN filter I got. It could swallow a 2-liter bottle and still have plenty of room! That's feeding a big 32mm carb so,,,, its time to reconsider cams.

Ok well im just about taking apart my motor, and i have everything off but the crankcase is still together. I have to replace the timing chain guide, and set the tensioner. Before putting it back together i have to buy a torque wrench so i can torque everything back to spec. Are there any other tools i would need when taking apart, and putting the motor back together?

If you take the flywheel off you'll need a puller to do that. Either take the engine to a shop and have them pull it for you or order one for $30 and wait. That's about the only special tool I can think of,,, unless you do a valve job,,, then you'll need a spring compressor and valve lapping suction cup. Get some red locktite for bolts you don't want coming back out, like cam bolts, sprocket nut, flywheel nut, etc. And black rtv for gasket maker for the valve cover and side covers. Let me know what you're up to so I can help out.

I don't know, I made my own spring compressor from a c-clamp and a piece of bent metal. I bought my suction cup about 15 yrs ago. It shouldn't cost much though... Its just a piece of wood with a rubber cup of each end.

You have the be careful when shpping for spring compressors. Some of them will not work on atv heads.... They're for cars. I found a 6 inch c-clamp works on anything from a 220 bayou to a 400 kodiak.
