Looks like hell of a bad time. But it worked, there is always a way if you think and stare at it long enough to think of it.

I am leaning toward using the carrier with the full lug.</end quote></div>

only downside I see is the bolt might weld itself to the aluminum if it doesn't get moved in a long time. Other than that, less bolts makes it easier to tighten the chain.

When i replaced the bushing/sleeve inside I used bronze bushings. The original had a steel bushing/sleeve and the bolt was seazed to that. I had it on a 30 ton press that pushed the sleeve out with the bolt. :0 That is why i had to use the JB around the end, when the sleeve was pushed out with the bolt it spalled off some of the cast aluminum from around the hole. I figured I would antiseeze the whole when I put the bolts in. Maybe I keep the other as a spare?

Antiseize or grease or something to keep it from welding again. I guess as long as you loosen it more often than once every 20yrs, you'll probably be ok. I can't think of any good reason not use that carrier other than the welding/seizing issue.

Not sure why you would need a spare, but, sure, chuck it on a shelf. Never know. Maybe you want to make a trailer out of the spare parts some day. That's what I did. I can haul a ton of dirt with it.

I think a trailer using the front a-arms, spindles, shocks would be more fun. indipendent suspension trailer with no axle to catch on trail ruts! I will have to store that in my brain for later.

Yeah, but I don't think those springs will support a ton of weight.

Maybe not? If they bottom out then they are just solid and run off of the atv tires for some give, there still would not be anything to catch on logs, rocks or stumps. Just a crazy idea that i proabbly will never experiment with.

What I've been having trouble with is the hubs coming off. I had to weld one nut on because it stripped and the wheel fell right off... leaving me to have to shovel out the dirt and limp back to the house.

If I had it to do over again, I would just go to tracter supply and buy some wheels and regular car-like wheel bearings. That's what's on the digger and I think I can get a whole set for around $100.

I suppose you are right. you know how it is when you get stuff laying around, it has to have a purpose somewhere.
