MWQ I believe mstrquad (maybe blackshot) is going up on Thursday night (3/31). I'm going to change my vacation sched. at work and if I can take Fri off and go up for the whole day on Friday (i.e. leave Thursday night).
I go up 41 as it goes out of Fresno. I'm assuming you'll be coming in like 140 from Merced to Mariposa and 49 to 41 (Oakhurst) and up.
Fire permits are usually good for the calendar year. At least the two I've gotten have been that way. Just need a CA fire permit. Of course they are free at pretty much any forestry fire dept. or ranger station.
Brodie, I keep forgetting to call the HQ in Clovis to see if I can get a Miami Trails on white paper so I can scan it (and post as a PDF). They always copy onto colored paper. I have the map on purple paper....didn't scan to well. Here's one somebody did that's somewhat OK. But it uses road numbers instead of names. Not sure where he got it. There are sometimes Maps up there in a couple of spots, but that's usually in the summer. I can go to the HQ in Clovis and get maps whenever. I have one or two hear but I think they've been screwed up.Map of Miami Trails
I will grab several copies from the HQ before the ride if they can't get me a clear copy.
Somewhere I have a reduced size (8.5x5.5) laminated copy of the map. Maybe if I can dig that out I can scan that.

Sounds great BRW, Yes I do go 140 to 49 to 41. I will need some simple directions to get to where you want to camp. Nothing too serious, I have benn wandering around the national forests for years camping. I got a fire permit 4-04 in twain harte, pretty sure it is in trailer if not i will get another one, no big deal. I am not sure how many will be coming with us but at least the wife and youngest son and possibly one of his friends. The oldest son and his new wife are thinking about it too. We are all dirt bike riders except for my wifes quad. Looking forward to it, even getting a little excited now.

Rain, rain, go away . . . or at least just do it on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays! It was pouring in the high desert this morning, canceling my maiden voyage in the new toyhauler. All packed up and no place to go. Oh well, the beer's cold - have to make the best of it later today.
We're making up for this weekend by with another shot at Stoddard Wells next Fri, Sat and Sun. (At least we are lengthening the trip, two nitghts instead of one.) Let us know if anyone else will be out there!

Miami is about 7 miles (but I head as low 5) north of Oakhurst. Not going to be able to ride tomorrow so I'll definately go up next weekend. Unless LJ wants to do a little scouting in the Jeep so I can man the camera and GPS tomorrow.
You'll be turning left past the 4000' mark. Right before the 4000' mark is a chain up turnout. Very large, lookout looking thing. Continuing past that you will see signs for the "Lewis Creek Trail" on the right. Just past the LCT, you'll see a sign (brown) pointing left that says "Miami Motorcycle Trails". Has a motorcycle emblem. That is the southern entrance and goes straight to Kamook Staging area. USFS Rd 6S41. There's also a very small staging area at the road entrance. Go up 41 about two more miles. Again, you'll see a sign for "Miami Motorcycle Trails." That is rd 6S24. Turn left. You'll see an intersection. Rd 6S15 goes to the left (to Kamook), Rd 6S24 goes straight (to Lone Seq.) Trails (Powerline & Shady) go to the right. Go down 6S24 like 1.5 miles or so. You'll cross a bridge over the creek. BE CAREFUL. It can stay icy back there. If you have the windows down you'll know you're close to the bridge because the temp drops seriuosly back there. Continue past the creek and eventually you'll come to Lone Seq. You can easily see the sign and toilet. Turn right on rd 6S24X (I think that's it.) You're in the camp at that point.
Picked up a UNI air filter today. My stock one is starting to rip. Going to use No-Toil for oil and cleaning. That filter is about 2x as thick of foam. Had a torn foam seal on the filter frame and UNI actually include 2 replacement ones. Gotta find a glue to hold em on. I pulled the old (torn) one off and cleaned it up tonight. Maybe it will be a little more peppy with more O2 getting in. I'm still stock on the exhaust.
