Default Tire questions for a Kodiak

I am new to the board and have found it really packed full of information. I hope you guys can help me with an issue.

I have a 2001 Kodiak 400. I am lookin to get some new tires and have narrowed it down to ITP Mudlites or ITP 589's. I ride trails, mud and do quiet a bit of climbing. Any opinions on one over the other. Also looking to move up from the stock 25" tires it now has to 26" or 27". Will the 26" and 27" tires fit without a lift kit? Will they fit on stock rims or will I need knew ones? If I move up to 26" or 27" will I also need a clutch kit? Kinda new to this and just wanted some experienced riders opinions.

Thank you for all input on this.

From what Ive heard the Mudlites are going to be my next purchase. I'm sticking with the 25's though. As for the rest of your question.......Sorry can't help you there.

I have seen 26"s on a stock 400 Kodiak not an auto though...I would think an inch wouldn't make a huge loss of bottom end...Any larger than that and you'd be better off asking someone that has done it...The mud lites are well liked around here...I always liked the look of the 589s myself...never ran them though....Have you seen the Maxxis Bighorns?..good looking tire thats getting popular in this area.....Just my $.02

Thank you for your input. I like the Mudlites because of the weight and reviews I have read about them, but was considering the 589's more for the look also.

Default Tire questions for a Kodiak

Hello. I had 26x12x12 on all corners with no lift kit. I didn't notice any power loss at all. I didn't have any clearance problems either.

I'm looking at the 26" ITP 589s for my Kodiak 450 also. From what I've seen, they are a pretty aggressive mud tire, but do all right on hardpack and other riding surfaces too. I'm thinking 26x12x12 (rear) and 26x12x9 (front), but I'm worried about too much of a power loss also.
