Are you talking the 700 carb or EFI.
The EFI i think is better all around.

With the clutch kit and pipe on the grizz and 27" 589's I beat a 700 efi with the same tire and a clutch kit by 1 lenghtin a 300 foot race. He took me out of the hole for the first 100 feet then when the grizz started revving I reeled him in. I also am about 100 lbs heavier than he was. I have never raced one top speed but mine will do 63mph on a bad day by the gps.

Seemed like I read one time that the EFI 700 is slower than the carburated version. Doesn't really seem right, but I swear I read this someplace. Grizzly should outrun a 700 most of the time by a small margin, and is supposed to have a bit lower top speed. I don't know. I rode a 700 one time right before they released it (sales rep recognized me on this forum and actually brought it by my house, real neat). I liked the ride of it, and it was very comparable to the Grizzly. Couldn't really tell from one to the other which was faster if any to me. Sportsman seemed like it didn't bounce around as much at high speeds than my 660. I still liked the Grizzly better though, but probably mostly because I was used to it.

The Grizzly is supposed to have more low end torque making it a better work bike. The Sportsman is supposed to be zingier in the top end making it a better play bike. One thing too for sure, the Grizzly is a whole lot easier to work on!

stock the grizzly doesn't hold a candle to the 700 efi on pavement.........my brother and i raced them.....about 60 the 700 was atleast 6 lengths ahead.........
the sportsman comes ON at about 20-25 and doesn't let out til bout 55 and still pulls up to 65 or so.........

but the 800 is a different story......that thing will ride a wheelie past a 700.....all day long.......

when is the last time you have seen anyone have a problem with a sportsman motor.........I SELDOM see any sportsmans in our shop with motor troubles unless they have been sunk or it is a 98-02 sportsman 500......they sometimes flatten the camshaft.........

I call bull on this one. I've been beat by the 800 by about 4 bike lengths with the Grizz in stock form and have run toe to toe with a 700 efi. 6 lengths LMAO may be 1 or 2 if the Grizz is not running right. My experience has been some what different with me ahead by 1/2 a lenght on hard pack clay.

I think you got it backwards. The SP700 has more low end torque and the griz has more high end. That is why the SP700 is good for work. If it is the SP700efi vs the griz......I would say it would be very close. If it is the SP700carb vs the griz......I would say the griz would win a drag, that is with everything being stock for stock.
