DS650 Toe-in or Toe-out
#1
I'm making an attempt to set-up my frontend (with adjustable a-arms) and I'm confused about confilcts in alot of what I have read reguarding the toe setting.
any sugestions on a starting set-up?
I am trying to get the beast to handle better in sugar sand, but will be also be riding in all types of terrain.
where I'm thinking of starting is
Camber -4 deg
Caster 7 deg.
Toe 1/4 toe-in ( or toe-out) I really don't know which way to go with this.
Any advice apreciated, Derek

I got with Jeffnrivercity and he helped me dial in my quads.
1. Get all your riding tires on (your stock tires are different diameter and that will change things.)
2. Level all the tires up. You may think your garage is level but, it isn't. You can put plywood, cardboard, etc. under the tires to level them out. Run a level cris-cross, front to back and across to see that all are leveled up.
3. Caster sounds right. The more caster you have, the more it will want to track straight. The less caster the easier it will be to turn. I'm set-up for 7 degrees and at high speeds she isn't easy to turn but, I don't have to worry about her taking off on me either.
4. I had thought it was best to set it up at 1/8" toe in because as you got going the looseness in the front end would drive the arms back creating toe out but, Jeff said to set it up toe out. Can't remember why but, seems to work ok.
5. Can't remember the camber adjustment.
I am going to larger front tires. I'm running 21X7's and I think my problem is they are just digging in on the soft sand.
I think Hightower did a write-up on setting up the DS. I think it is on the DS650 dot Net site???

Well I have decided to go with these settings
Camber -4 deg
Caster 7 deg.
Toe 3/8 toe-out
Got the tires on (holeshots), what a b!tch putting them on the rims,
23 fronts & 22 rears that should also help, from what I understand
Thank for the input, Derek

Hello Dereks. I have been surprised at the toe out requirements of both quads and snowmobiles. They are just the opposite of cars. All the cars that I have ever owned required 1/8 to 1/4 inch toe in. The owers manual for my Quad (sorry its not a DS) states it should be adjusted 1/8 to 1/4 toe out. My snowmobile requires even more toe out. I noticed that our snowmobiles are quite jittery with toe in, and are very stable with toe out.
Hope this helps.
