Here is the big question....Do they all run.....lol
Hey Stunna I am with you. I ride fast as hell thru the single track. I ride within my limits and try not to bust my *** on a tree. But I do ride fast. If not for pushin the limits out there I dont know why I would ride. I sit behind a desk all day at work. Taking a pleasure cruise thru the woods does nothing to help keep my healthy. I need to push it to try and get a good workout in and to blow all the cobwebs out from the work week.

Hey muddy...
Not to start an argument again or anything, thats not what I'm trying to do here. I just wanna know why you think that riding a wheelie would cause our sport to have a blackeye? The blindfold thing was a joke and I'm sure you realize that, but what about the poppin' a wheelie thing is wrong? I'm not a riding expert or anything, and it don't happen often because usually its by accident, but why would showin' off a little bit be so bad? I figure if anything it would be cool.... not a black eye on our sport. Thats what a sport quad (not a utility quad) is made for. To ride hard and play on.... and if we can't do that on the trails, whats the point of even having them.

All but the Bultaco run. The Bultaco was given to me as a bonus a few jobs ago. It was bought new in 73 and raced twice, flat track. It blew up in the second race and was rebuilt and put away. Ive had it about 10 years or so and have never started it. The odyssey hasnt run in a while either, but not as long as the Bultaco. The Rupp mini bike is in the middle of a restoration project. Im making a clean runner out of it to have at enduro races as a pit bike.

Im 37. been riding around 17 years now. I currently ride a CRF250X, Yz400 and GSX600F street bike. My 9yr old has been riding since he was 4. Just got him a new 05 CRF100 this month. This is his 3rd bike so far. ive spent way too much $ tricking out that little bike. But its sooo much fun. I just got done putting his new seat cover on minutes ago here at work.
Im a CCC member as well as the AMA and the West Michigan Trail Riders (local CCC chapter) I help work at some of the CCC events the WMTR is involved in as well as do trail mainenantce. I was up to Drummond last year marking and running sweep for the 6 days. Its a lot of fun and rewarding to know that I am helping put back into the sport I love.
I still try to hit the MX track once in a while. Cant seem to get that rush outta my system. But at my age my MX days are coming to a close. I just cant seem to keep up on the fitness needed to ride the track the way I want to / know I can. I sit behind this computer for 8 hours a day 5 days a week so staying fit is a challange.
When I am not out riding with my kid I am surely pushing my limits on the trail. When your riding with 20 somethings you gotta work to keep your edge out there. When I go out with the boy its a much slower pace. I let him set the pace. He is a really good rider for 9. But as with all kids they are always learning. Heck aint we all. I think everytime I go out I learn how to do something new / better on the bike. Thats what makes it fun for me.

I don't think this is a sport quad versus utility quad issue.. Many of us have both, and are competent on either... I do not think it reflects anything about the man (or woman), or their age either. I own both, and use one for work, the other for play.. although I admit I spend the majority of my time on the utility these days.. Why? Well if you have ever gone out deep into the woods and had to rely on getting yourself out of a jam... I'll take a Ute any day. Besides, my ever legendary draggin butt is in need of comfort more these days... Nuff said about that... I do on occasion rip the cover off the Raptor.. and can rooste with the best of them.. but not for long periods of times like I used to ... I guess two heart attacks, and 8 surgerys on a leg will do that to you... You will eventually get to the point where you feel all those jolts and jumps more than you will want to admit... Everybody does.
As for wheelies... well, before Doug Demokis, I used to consider myself quite the sylist in my day... and wheelies were a particular specialty... Jumps too... And in the correct setting, they are alright and just part of the game... But on a narrow trail, or on a street etc.. that is another story. We recently lost a very large and challenging riding area recently because some (insert favorite descriptive word here) fool decided to wheelie his quad down the access road. Only trouble was, the owner of our area, also owned a bus company, and had a driver roll a bus avoiding the same (FKEOWM*&^%$) fool. That one cost him a wuarter of a million in lost revenues, bus costs etc. Needless to say the riding days ended the next day when a 6 ft chain link fence was erected.
So no, although I certainly can understand ripping it up, I have to say that it had to be done responsibly. It is not a right...
Age does have it's advantages though... The pit tootsies like old fat men with beards because they think we are all harmless. We enjoy having nature's beauty surround us too.... well until Mrs DB comes out of the camper long enough to shake a finger at her old man and chase the butterflies away... Ahhh yes, I love my wife of 33 years dearly... and thank God every day that she puts up with old farts like me...
