Primary Clutch Replaced
The new clutch arrived this morning and is now on the bike. After taking a close look between new and old, the weights were the same but the one main difference is that the new clutch has a smaller diameter spring than the factory one. After install and being torqued to spec, I put all back together and fired it up. I must say, it works really good and is fast. Nice to see hard work pay off so a little fun can be had. Thanks again for all of the feedback on here.

I think I am going to keep the old clutch and buy a rebuild kit for it. Really, the only thing that I could see wrong was that the bushings came out of it and that is why had the knocking at idle. Plus, gives me something to tinker with and have a spare.

As long as the spider towers aren't grooved up where the buttons slide, there are plenty of rebuild kits around.Epi Complete Primary Clutch Rebuild Kit for Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 1997 2012 | eBay

Common problem on this carb to dribble a little at an idle. Float is hard to set right, but if you've been having problems,I'd go ahead and install a carb kit. Shindy Carb Repair Kit for Polaris Scrambler 500 2 4x4 98 02 Sportsman 500 4x4 | eBay
Carb has to be at a 45 degree angle and the tab must just touch the float pin with the float parallel to the carb body. Here's a good article on this BST40 carb and how to set the level. On a Ktm,but similar carb.http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=347184

New Clutch
New clutch works great and is flawless! I did not change the springs in it I just ordered a whole new one and am going to rebuild the old one with new springs when I get the time. I had been told that the after market clutches were not very good nor reliable but like I said, I have had no major issues. Sorry for the delay in answering, had to remember the password for this place. Take care and let me know if you have any other questions.
