So I call hot cams, I guess I'm supposed to be using different cam-valve clearances with an aftermarket cam... that i didnt know..

Intake Exh

Stock .001-.003 &.003-.005~

HotCams Stg.1 .006 & .014??? (Does that seem kind of big...?)

I'm guessing this is why I can't idle..?</end quote></div>

Who told you this?

.014????? You'll beat you valve stems to a nice mushroom shape! Not only that, but the bigger that gap, the less duration your cam has (and less lift too). If that is the case, put the stock cam back in and use stock clearances.

its an semi auto trans. When i get back to the garage I will clean it up and see if I can find a vin and CC's on the engine block. Thanks for the help on figuring out what this beast is.

Another quick question, since I need parts for it will the ones from a 230 work say, the calipers or exhaust ?</end quote></div>

The problem with the exhaust is that you have a 230 in a 250 frame (I guess...?) and the 2 quads have different headers. Not sure that it matters.... but it might.

And if you have a 250 frame, then the swingarm would have to be 250 too because a 230 swingarm will not fit in a 250 frame. So, you may need a 250 caliper. Not sure there either if a 230 one will fit. Need to look at the microfiche online n see if they have the same part numbers.

From what i remember you put it around the bolt holes but not on the actual bolts..</end quote></div>

THe book says to just replace the gaskets on the bolts.. I dont have any gaskets and I was getting really tired of taking it off and redoing it,,,, so I gooped RTV all over the bolts,,, both threads and heads. It dont leak now!

Guys, I have a far greater problem than I thought.

I have pics of my rocker box open and this is after 24hrs. (Too big to post online unless you know who will host 3mb~ pics..

My BRAND NEW rockers are toast, looks as if the cam were a grinder.. I dont know what the ***** is up.. something aint right.. Where the f** are the oil passages, I think they may be partially blocked. I dont want to destroy my new cam for f**k sake..

as soon as you guys can point out how the oiling system is routed, i think im going to bore the openings with a drill bit just a LITTLE bit over stock, so if it clogs, its got a little more play. So far I notice the one that feeds the top of the cam, but on the motor side i dont see ****..

there was a stuck rag in the motor when i got it and tore down the pump cover.

I was just talking about this earlier.... You got RTV on the cam bearing! I can still see it stuck to the cam. And it looks to me that your cam bearing is worn out in the valve cover. I think you need a new valve cover and you need to mic the cam to make sure it is still in spec. I think your cam was just flopping around in there and it ate up the rockers.

You used waaaaaaay too much RTV. I can see it dripping down the sides and big clumps got squeezed out. And who knows how much got on the cam bearing. Lesson learned! Next time use only a very thin amount, very thin! Spread thin with your finger and keep it far away and extra thin next to the bearings.

Who knows, maybe some of the RTV got balled up in the oil passages like Dansmc said it would do. I've never seen it happen, but he sure is all fired up about it on his webpages!
