so since I changed the bearings on my cam when I did this rebuild and switched caps, thats probably a really good thing. so basically thats all you should do if switching motor covers is bearings. I have never taken a motor apart without replacing bearings and gaskets, those things you just don't reuse.

I have heard breaking a timing chain can do some serious damage if you were moving fast. Hopefully not.

You should check your piston for little marks in the top from hitting the valves. Here's what the pistons looked like after a neon's cam stopped spinning all of a sudden.

Bent every valve in the engine,,,, and made nice little smiley faces on top of all the pistons.

I didnt think that cam bearings came out... If they do, I dont see how. They look machined out of the head and cover. I also didn't see a part number for cam bearings.

Who told you to be concerned about switching covers??? Is there any reason to believe they know? Because I can't say for sure 100% w/o talking to someone who worked at the suzuki plant when these quads were made or talking to someone who has switched many covers around and has lots of experience. Either that or finding a way to accurately measure every curve n hole in the castings and comparing.

He probably got it from the clymer manual, It says the 2 pieces are made together and if one is warped you must replace them both.

Well, I've been wanting to call vince for the longest time now,,, Just cant find the time. I think what ever he does comes with a rod kit, or at least new bearings. You have to call him n pick his brain.

I have a whole list of big bore people I want to call plus vince and I need to order new valve springs too. First I need to decide if I'm going with a new cam or not as I'd like to order the cam n springs together. Either way, springs are the most necessary.

Well on closer look at the website they don't sell the crank or the rod kit for a 85-86 and mines an 86. Not sure what the difference would be between these two years and what they have listed 1987-1994.
