More rings = less backpressure = more power. That's my understanding anyway.

Don't run without the rings, at least not for too long you'll burn up your exhaust valve. I ordered a Works banshee rear shock off ebay, it should be coming today. I'll let you guys know how it turns out after I get my frame back together, somehow the swingarm ripped right out...

I was told this by a couple different shops, everyone said if the exhaust flows too freely it will flow too hot and burn up the exhaust valve. This is just what I was told, I don't know for sure.

so i was just offered to trade my honda fourtrax 250(2wd, utility version, nothing special, pretty beatup) for a 89 lt230e that works and looks perfect, and if i give him the plow setup i have for the honda i get another lt230s that just needs a cdi box. add that to the 230e i already have and ive got a sweet collection of zukis! oh, and the honda cost me all of 50 bucks and another 18 bucks for the wheel bearing it needed. plow i got for 120, so total investment of $188 and im trading for 2 quads? um...ok!!

I know if you take the exhaust totally off... header n all, you will burn an exhaust valve. Never heard that though if you run open pipes or anything, so long as you have a header at least. The funny thing is when you take the header off, you won't have any scavenging effect, so having a header makes the exhaust flow more freely than no pipe at all, lol.

Anyway, I've never seen a burnt exhaust valve. I've seen plenty of worn out intake valves though! I've seen melted pistons, broken rods, and just about everything else broken, but never a bad exhaust valve. But I'll keep looking

Anyone know where the rubber mudguard is supposed to go on the 230s? My cousin had one off his old 230 and he said it bolted up by the fuel tank but that's all I know about it...any input?

I'd think they would hang off the metal support that the plastic fenders are bolted to up front.

I've got a question - when using smaller number of teeth sprockets for example 11 up front and 39 in the rear - will a 520x84 chain work? Mine seems to be quite slack...well really really slack. I've tried to tighten it but its still pretty loose. Any sugestions or pictures to show me how the chain is suppose to look like?

If the stock size was 12/41 and you're running 11/39, that's a decrease of 3 teeth. Your chain might be 3 links too long.

I always lay on the grab bar to push the back of the quad down and make sure the chain is loose, but not super loose, just barely loose. That way when I land a jump, the chain doesn't squish my swingarm bearings. Any looser than that is asking for a broken mag cover.
