wade700, This is the procedure for proper float hieght. To check the float hieght, turn the carburetor upside down with the bowl removed. measure the float height while the float arm is just contavting the needle valve with vernier calipers. the float height should be 23.4 +/- 1.0mm. If the float hieght is out of spec, bend the float arm (Tab that needle valve hangs from). Another thing to check would be your jet needle. Make sure that it isn't bent and that the whole unit slides up and down without sticking. If it does stick make sure the rubber boot at the top of the carb is seated correctly. If you ride ahead of your son alot and he still has the stock airbox, there's a good chance that dirt has gotten by the air filter. Hopefully it didn't get passed the carb. You may also want to clean all the ports in the carb while it's apart.

when you got the kit from CT,did it come w/good instructions for the jet kit?I ask this because I am just learning how to work on these if you couldn't tell already(he,he). I consider myself borderline retarted when it comes to carberators. But, I am learning and I guess this is how it happens. I'll have to take it apart again this wkend and see if I can get a better idea about those tips you gave me. I appreciate it.

The CT Racing kit came with a parts list and the parts. That's it! There are some good write ups online about carburetor basics and do's and don't to jetting. Another excellent read is the Suzuki repair manual. It's about $80 bucks but well worth it.....for me atleast. As far as the air filter goes, it's a K&N with an outerwears cover. Water will definately get through. If you plan on alot of water type riding you may want to rig up some sort of snorkel for the bike. If you do put on an aftermarket filter, you will also need either a case breather filter or a long hose to run from the case to a higher position like the handlebar area. The stock airbox has the case hose feed into the air box plastic.

Wade700, if you go to flickr.com and do a search for ltz50, you will see my pics I put in for my kids bike. Pic 024 shows a black hose coming up from the case to the bottom of the air box. Either a long hose or breather filter will need to be installed in it's place.

So has anybody actually bought a larger rear sprocket for this machine? If so who makes it? How large of a sprocket can you put on this machine and still use the chain guard?
I really don't want more top end speed. My kids ride on hills and it needs more low end pulling power.
I'm thinking a new sprocket, mill the head ten thousanths and maybe pull three clutch weights.
Any more suggestions for low end power?
thanks

I put a 48 on and have a new 43 that was never put on but either one you need to lose the chain cover.
Which after riding at Hatfield this year and watching the sprocket and brake cover bouncing off rocks made me wonder how long the plastic cover would have lasted anyways
